    Description

Engage your middle school or early high school students in the songwriting process with these resources on popular music song structure and the basics of lyric writing!

    Song Structure Posters & Slides

Six basic song sections (Verses, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, Refrain, and Tag) and two common song forms (Verse-Chorus-Verse and Verse-Refrain) are included. Hang on your walls as posters or present on the big screen as slides! Included are printable PDF pages, as well as PowerPoint and Google Slides with transitions. Each format includes full-color and B&W versions, all sized at 8½ x 11.

Plus, this resource now includes a self-checking Easel Assessment that covers the material on the slides/posters!

    Beginning Lyric Writing Templates

Included are two lyric writing templates, one that uses Verse-Chorus-Verse form and one that uses Verse-Refrain form. Use these clearly-organized worksheets to introduce your students to a few common songwriting frameworks within the context of a structured activity before they branch out with their own creative variations! In addition to a printable PDF, this resource is already optimized as an Easel Activity.

    • The Verse-Chorus-Verse template uses three 4-line verses, a 4-line chorus, a 3-line pre-chorus, and a 3-line bridge. The Verse-Refrain template uses three 4-line verses with a 1-line refrain. Extra space is provided for sketching out the main idea, noting the rhyme scheme, and general brainstorming.
