This exciting unit project outline uses the format of the hit podcast series "Song Exploder" to help students explore modern music analysis and podcast creation! The 5-10 class period unit project gives students the opportunity to listen to and analyze modern music of their own choosing, ultimately creating a podcast episode based on their own song analysis!
The 5 part outline walks students through the process of music analysis using guiding questions that helps scaffold in depth, well thought out student responses. Ultimately, these responses serve as the script for the individual podcast episodes.
The document includes several pages of helpful hints for recording a podcast using SoundTrap, and online DAW which is suggested for recording student work.
A favorite project for middle/high school students of all ability levels and curricular goals!
The project follows the NAfME Music Standards for Performing, Listening, Responding, Creating & Connecting.
Project Notes:
-This project can be completed as a short or long term project. Each section generally takes a 45-minute class period.
-The website Padlet works well as a place for students to compile their work for each section. “A Student Guide to Creating a Padlet” is a great resource to help students set up and use Padlet
-This description uses the website SoundTrap as the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for students to record their podcast episode. You can use any recording software available to students for this step (Garageband, BandLab, Audacity, etc).
-You can choose to have students listen and respond to their classmate's work.
