Description
Here is a set of four fun mystery activities for solving Quadratic Equations that your students will love! This set covers all four methods commonly used to solve quadratics: factoring when a is any number, completing the square, using the quadratic formula and graphing.
The activities are all centered around the mystery of Who Killed Mr. X, with each segment leading to a new lead in the case. You are able to change the title of your mystery in the first activity.
PLEASE NOTE: The first activity in this bundle uses factoring where a could be any number. This is the same mystery as these other bundles (the only variation is the level of difficulty of the factoring):
- Mystery Bundle with Factoring a=1
- Mystery Bundle with Factoring a≠1
- THIS ACTIVITY: Mystery Bundle with Factoring a is any number
- ALL options bundled together!
In the first activity, Who Killed Mr. X, students combine the skills of solving quadratic equations by factoring with the classic board game CLUE. In this activity, you can customize your mystery, selecting your own victim, suspects, weapons, and locations!
Once the suspect is identified, students are led to a locked briefcase, and they solve a series of quadratic equations by completing the square to figure out the combination using a logic puzzle. This fun activity is called The Case of the Locked Briefcase
The Message in the Briefcase is coded, but students will decode it using the Quadratic Formula.
This message leads your junior sleuths to the city Where is the Villain Hiding. In this graphing activity, you will be able to customize your title to reflect the name of villain from your first part of the mystery.
Each of these activities can be used independently and are listed as separate items. Please visit the links listed above for more information and previews!
