Description
Practice solving quadratic equations in mixed forms with this engaging and challenging, collaborative activity!
This activity is a group activity, but each student is responsible for completing their own sheet of problems.
Here's how it works:
- Students work in groups of 4.
- Each group member gets a different sheet of equations to solve.
- They color the spaces according to the solutions.
- Once all 4 pieces are complete and assembled, a picture of a sea turtle is revealed.
Students will know if answers are wrong if the picture looks wrong. This makes it easy to spot misconceptions.
Most teachers say this activity takes a couple class periods, and their students were very engaged!
Equations are written in standard form, vertex form, and variations that require moving terms to solve. Students will need to be familiar with solving equations and factoring quadratics (including when a does not equal 1) in order to solve. Most problems have two rational solutions. A few have square root irrational solutions, and a few have no solution.
Answer keys are included.
