    Description

    This fun mystery activity covers all four methods commonly used to solve quadratic polynomials: factoring when a≠1, completing the square, using the quadratic formula and graphing quadratic equations.

    The activities are all centered around the mystery of Who Killed Mr. Factor, with each segment leading to a new lead in the case.

    PLEASE NOTE: This is the same mystery as these alternate versions based on the level of factoring your class needs to practice:

    In the first activity, Who Killed Mr. Factor, students combine the skills of solving quadratic equations by factoring (a≠1) with the classic board game CLUE. In this activity, you can customize your mystery, selecting your own victim, suspects, weapons, and locations!

    Once the suspect is identified, students are led to a locked briefcase, and they solve a series of quadratic equations by completing the square to figure out the combination using a logic puzzle. This fun activity is called The Case of the Locked Briefcase

    The Message in the Briefcase is coded, but students will decode it using the Quadratic Formula.

    This message leads your junior sleuths to the city Where is the Villain Hiding. In this graphing activity, you will be able to customize your title to reflect the name of villain from your first part of the mystery.
