How the activity works

This activity requires PowerPoint to work and will NOT work in Google Slides

  • If students have devices with PowerPoint installed, you can have students play this game in small groups of 2-4. If not, this game works great for a whole-class review by projecting the game on the board! If you have a smart board - great! If not, using a wireless mouse and passing it around works great to get students involved.
  • A team starts by picking a pumpkin (question) and answering that question on a whiteboard or scratch paper.
  • Use the "Check Answer" button to reveal the correct answer.
  • If that team is correct, they can roll the die by clicking on it, and clicking again to stop it. Then clicking to move their game piece the corresponding number of spaces.
  • Then play advances to the next team.
  • If playing with the whole class you may want to introduce the rule of "stealing" a question if the team is incorrect so that all students are working to solve the problems in case they get the opportunity to steal.
  • The team that reaches the "finish" first wins, or whoever is closest at the end of class.

This pumpkin patch board game has the gamified approach to learning for your classroom that will have students captivated and and motivated so that they are actively engaged in developing a deeper understanding of solving multistep equations.

Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.
Solve linear equations in one variable.
