What educators are saying

Very effective activity to have students create their own facility. Questions like whether or not the purpose of prison is to punish or rehabilitate suddenly hit home.

Description

Are prisons for punishment or rehabilitation? Or a mixture of both? If you were starting your own prison, how would you build it? What would it look like? What activities would you allow within your walls?

My students love the crime and punishment chapter in my Sociology course. We discuss prisons and their role in society. This project gives them a chance to develop their own prison from scratch after conducting research on prisons and crime.

This file includes:

* Prison description sheets for students to give details about their building.

* Project requirements page

* Detailed rubric for their blueprint
