Description
Naomi and I want to help you clear up some misconceptions your students may have about the first Thanksgiving.
Maybe they've been told the story about the Native Americans and Pilgrims gathering as friends to share a meal in 1621.
We know that accurate history is important. In this lesson, your students will learn that while the Pilgrims did come over on the Mayflower in 1620, the harvest celebration that occurred in 1621 was NOT the first Thanksgiving. They'll learn about the Mother of Thanksgiving- Sarah Josepha Hale, and why some Native Americans and others refer to this day as The Day of Mourning and choose to protest Thanksgiving.
Included in your download is a full-color eBook, discussion cards, and draw/response sheets. Note catchers are also included.
Have fun teaching!
