What educators are saying

I underestimated the power of this activity! I figured my students would have fun with it. However, they were bouncing off the walls with excitement to help one another with their myths. It was wonderful to hear them share ideas and create their myths!
This was a great resource that I could leave for my substitute teacher after we began our astronomy unit. Great resource, thank you.

Description

EDITABLE! Just like ancient civilizations observed the night sky and created myths to tell stories of the stars, students write their own myths after creating their own constellation as they graph their name.

All civilizations have mythology to tell the stories of the stars! Pick any civilization and create a social studies connection with the star tales of the Greeks, Romans, Native Americans, Africans, Aboriginals, India, and South Americas just to name a few!

The project is also interdisciplinary/cross-curricular:

Science - Connect with knowledge of the stars and constellations.

Social Studies - Connect with the ancient civilizations that first named the constellations and their mythology.

Language Arts - Connect with mythology and utilize creative writing to create their own myth.

Math - Incorporates using a graph to plot the points from their name to create a constellation.

This mini project is easy to incorporate and can be used as an in class activity or as a mini project in a variety of subjects depending upon your classroom needs. Editable so you can adjust it to meet your classroom needs.
