Social Skills: Social Monsters

Take advantage of your early elementary students imaginations with this social skills packet! Students become “Monster Trainers” and guide their monsters through four social skill levels, completing fun, engaging activities along the way!

First, students pick their monster. They’ll meet 8 monsters, each with their own social skill struggle:

►Finding it hard to make friends
►Getting upset easily
►Not liking to lose
►Not being able to calm down
►Thinking everything is a BIG problem
►Being shy
►Making others uncomfortable

Activities combine fantasy world with cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches to teach emotional regulation and social communication. Perfect for speech therapists, counselors, and teachers.

Students guide their monsters through 4 levels:

❶ Understanding Feelings: create feelings book, increase emotional vocabulary, synonyms/antonyms, when did you feel this way?

❷ Why Do I Get Upset?: rating scale (1-3), discussion poster, sorting mats, 24 stimuli cards

❸ Understanding the Size of Problems: concept introduction, display posters, 24 scenario cards

❹ Toolbox Strategies: create toolbox, 12 calming strategies, 24 stimuli cards to help monsters choose calming strategies

When children complete the packet, they can create a “Certificate of Completion” for their monster!
