Overview of PowerPoint
•Begins by explaining the need for a filter to cleanse dirty water with animations, then compares it to a social filter in our brain.
•Explains the reason we need to keep some thoughts in our head (may hurt others' feelings or be inappropriate)
•Teaches students which thoughts to keep in our heads and which are okay to say out loud
•Students practice thinking about how they would feel if someone said something to them to determine which thoughts to keep inside with guided examples
•Emphasizes that students aren't bad for having thoughts that might hurt others' feelings, but that they can learn to control what they say even if they can't control what they think
•Students practice changing thoughts into something more appropriate to say
•Several interactive practice questions at the end to check understanding

Note to Teachers: This PowerPoint does include the words "dumb" and "hate", though never directed at a person (this game is dumb, I hate these cookies). Generally I avoid these words in PowerPoints since some students are sensitive to them, but it seemed necessary when talking about things students shouldn't say.
