What educators are saying

Absolutely adored this resource! Great for SEL, or review for back to school routines and expectations. Thanks!
Quick and ready to use. It was a fantastic supplement to my peace of mind curriculum when we hit a couple of bumps in the respect department and needed a bit of a reminder!!

Description

****UPDATED with digital activities for Google Slides and Microsoft Powerpoint.

Social-Emotional Learning is more important than ever and having quality lesson plans and activities makes it so much easier to build into your curriculum. These units were developed to support YOU in teaching, modeling and reinforcing great character. This resource focuses on RESPECT and is part of a year-long social-emotional curriculum. This resource can be used as a stand-alone resource or in conjunction with the other units.

In this packet, you will find 4 detailed lesson plans on respect, as well as additional printables and resources!

Lesson 1- What is Respect?

Your class will discuss respect at home, at school, and in the community and create an anchor chart to remember what you've discussed! Then students will create a flipbook for how to be respectful at home, school, and in the community.

Lesson 2-How Does Respect Look?

You and your class will work on an anchor chart showing how respect LOOKS (safe and calm hands, looking at the speaker, mouth is closed while others are talking, and taking care of our tools and materials). Then your class will play a fun Simon Says game where students will have fun "showing respectful eyes" or "show me disrespectful eyes."

Lesson 3-How Does Respect Sound?

Your students will play a fun memory game matching situations with how to express ourselves respectfully. This lesson focuses on disagreeing or expressing our opinions while still being respectful. Then your class will brainstorm all about manners and respectful ways of speaking. You'll create a chart all about respectful words together. Then your students will complete a writing page that has them fill in speech bubbles.

Lesson 4-How Will I Show Respect?

Your class will read a fabulous book about manners (or watch the video) and then do a corresponding directed drawing of a polite otter. Your students will also write about how they wish others would speak to them on a writing page and attach it to the drawing!

This Resource Also Includes

-an original poem about respect

-a family letter to send home that explains how families can support the unit

-I am Respectful writing page

-Is it Respectful? cut/paste sorting page

-Shows Respect/Doesn't Show Respect flipbook

-Really Respectful writing page where students will describe how to be respectful in various situations

I truly hope this unit makes it much easier for you to build character education into your day!
