Social Boundaries (touch, talk, trust) : Flip Book and Social Skills Story
What educators are saying
Description
Beyond learning about stranger danger, it is important for children to understand that there are different ways to interact with people in their lives depending on how well they know them. Learning about social boundaries can help young students or students with autism or other special needs understand how much they should talk to, touch and trust the people around them. Navigating relationships can be confusing and and complex. This Social Boundaries Flip Book and social story is a simplified starting point for children to begin thinking about social and emotional boundaries. It helps you to introduce the concept of personal space and the idea that some people are emotionally closer than others. The people in a child's life are divided into 5 categories: family, friends, acquaintances, community helpers and strangers.
The product includes:
- 6 color pages that can be cut out and assembled to create a Social Boundaries Flip Book. Each page represents a category of people and includes a description of how the student might interact with that group. Once cut out, the labeled flip book pages are blank to allow the student to draw or write about the people from their lives who belong in that group.
- 6 page black and white version of the Social Boundaries Flip Book.
- 7 page social narrative that briefly explains the levels of touch, talk and trust for each group of people.
