Description
This unit requires students to use their research skills and basic math skills (using simple and compound interest) to choose and "pitch" their dream car to their parents.
The teacher randomly assigns each student a job, hourly wage, and two interest rate options: a simple interest loan from your parents, and a compound interest rate from the bank. Then, using the auto sales booklets (which you can pick up at most grocery stores), they will choose two cars to compare. They will do that math, figure the costs, and decide which loan option works better for their situations.
They will then research the cars and compare the specs to decide which car is ultimately the best choice. Then, they will write an argumentative essay in which they will convince their parents/guardians to help them get the car. In addition, they will create a poster (or Glog using Glogster) to use as a visual for the "pitch" to their parents.
