I developed this lesson for my high school English 4 class, senior English. The video segments allowed me to explore classic literature while keeping my students engaged and interested. This scaffolding is perfect for learners of all ability levels.
I usually post this material in Google Classroom for students to have:the slideshow, the questions, and the notes/reading summary. As a class, I go through the slides while they are projected and students have their questions up on their computers. I will, depending on the class or student need, print the questions so students can answer them on paper. Again, depending on need, I allow students to answer these in groups. Or to answer them independently and then discuss in small groups.
After we watched the videos and answered the questions, we had a lively class discussion regarding whether or not Sir Gawain upheld the code of chivalry. Students must provide textual evidence to support their answers.
I like to follow up this assignment with some close reads of the text. Then we read “The Wife of Bath's Tale” and compare and contrast. I use this resource for the lesson.
