Sing a Poem Musical Activity Lesson Plan

In this simple music activity, students learn how to use poetry to create a new musical composition. This is an excellent activity for the music or language arts/literature classroom. Includes an additional composition exercise and sample flashcards to cut out.

It is not necessary that students or the instructor understand music to be able to teach this exercise. Instead, students are encourage to sing and use their ears to discuss the poetry in a musical way. Advanced students can write down what they improvise.
