Description

This 10 page movie guide with handouts accompanies the film "Sing (2016)"

★★ Check out the full preview! ★★

Gr 1-3 have multiple choice questions. Gr 4-6 have to complete in full sentences. This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

The first part of this worksheet includes tasks to do during the movie:

• The students have space to write down any animals they see and important information.

• Matching main characters with their corresponding animal

• One questions about their favorite character and why (when the movie finishes)

Followed by 30 comprehension questions in chronological order to be completed after the movie. I have made 2 separate sets for differentiation:

For Grade 1, 2 and 3 I made multiple choice questions.

For Grade 4, 5 and 6 needs to be full sentence answers

The multiple choice questions have also worked well with my ESL students.

Part 3 – Students need to complete the profiles for the contestants. They need to include a profile picture, a bit about their background, their personality and their talent. There are 6 profiles to complete and can be done in pairs if too much for one student.

Part 4 – This is for the song “My Way” sang by Mike near the end (around 1hr 30 mark) first cut the worksheet into 2 (lyrics and exercise) hand out the exercise only and explain each part so it’s clear what they need to do. Listen to the song and repeat if necessary. After everyone has finished you can get the students to swap their work and using the lyrics mark their friends work.

If you don't already have the movie, you can purchase or rent it from Amazon.com

How can movies help students learn English?

Learning from movies is motivating and enjoyable

- Sometimes students need a change in style, and movies are generally an integral

part of a student's life.

Movies provides authentic and varied language

- It's always a good idea to introduce students examples of English in real

situations. This includes accents different to your own.

Movies gives a visual context

- This gives the student the ability to interpret the language in full visual context.

To see such visual supports as facial expressions and gestures simultaneously.

Variety and flexibility

- Movies can also act as a springboard for follow-up tasks such as discussions,

debates on social issues, role plays, reconstructing a dialogue or summarising.
