Simulated Walk of Privilege Scenarios
Description
In this role playing and simulated walk of privilege, participants are presented with a fictional scenario. Each fictional scenario represents the real population of British Columbia and Canada and its economic diversity.
Lesson: Exploring identity perspectives and different relationships to privilege
· What does it mean to have privilege?
· Who has privilege?
Goal: to help students recognise how power and privilege affect their lives even if they are not aware of it. (Not everybody has the same starting point in life.)
Learning objective:
The aim of this exercise is for students to realise that it is not everybody who has access to the same support, resources, or have the same circumstances. Some people don’t have the same privileges as others by no fault of their own.
The lack of access to various support or resources, should be seen as an increased number of obstacles and difficulties to overcome by the person.
Method: Role playing activity
