This is a simplified version of my lecture on the Holocaust, including opening activities, the various causes of the Holocaust, the timeline of events from the late 1800s to 1945, and activities focusing on Holocaust remembrance and denial. This is a high-school level lecture, although it could also be useful to implement with younger students (7th and 8th grade; younger students will likely not be able to fully process this material). Students should know the basics of World War II, in particular how Hitler and the Nazis came to power and the general events and details of the war (combatants, geography, etc.). Lastly, this lecture is meant to be a major tool within a broader Holocaust unit; I often give parts of the lecture in 20-minute intervals per day, then supplement it with additional primary document readings (e.g. The Diary of Anne Frank, Night) and videos or movies (e.g. Schindler's List, The Pianist).
