Description

Add a simple and compound sentences coloring activity to your sentence structure activities. Engage students using these grammar coloring activities to study simple and compound sentences as part of a sentence structure unit.

I use this particular simple and compound sentence activity for scaffolding practice before introducing complex sentences.

Included in this sentence structure activity:
• TWO coloring sheets—one with flowers and one with abstract squares. Sections are numbered. Students will color simple sentences or compound sentences according to the key.
• 20 sentences that are either simple or compound for EACH coloring activity (40 practice sentences total). Students will find the correct answer and match the color to the type of sentence. Sentences 1-10 have assigned colors, and sentences 11-20 have other assigned colors.
• A picture of each finished sheet.

I created this simple and compound coloring activity because many students need a review of simple and compound sentences before they move onto complex and compound-complex sentences.

Understanding types of sentences with sentence structure lessons requires lots of practice, and this grammar coloring activity provides students a fun take on grammar instruction.

After instruction and practice, this activity was perfect for independent practice to help students develop confidence prior to a quiz on simple and compound sentences.
