Short Story Unit Bundle Rose for Emily, Sweat, Everyday Use, A Visit of Charity

This short story bundle includes lessons for A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, Everyday Use by Alice Walker and A Visit of Charity by Eudora Welty. There is loads of analysis to be done, dialogue to be had, and inferences to be made with this bundle! I am confident that you and your students will have fun with all these stories and materials!

In this bundle you will find a 29 slide EDITABLE introductory PowerPoint (I’ve also included a PDF of the same PPT, just in case you want that too!) on Southern Literature, Southern Gothic Literature and brief author biographies. Many slides have notes on them to help you with additional information during lectures. There are guided notes for the introductory PowerPoint (the notes are also in a PDF and editable PPT format!) that also come with a teacher's answer key, so, in the event students are absent they can easily get the correct notes! A brief (5 question, fill in the blank) quiz on the notes is also provided.

Each story has a pre-reading assignment ("A Visit of Charity" is the only story that does not have vocabulary, but it does have a pre-read assignment), during reading guiding questions and post reading questions. There is a quiz for each story that incorporates the student vocabulary.

Furthermore, as a bonus, there is a chart that allows students to check off--and textually support--which Southern and Southern Gothic traits they find in each story. As a cumulative activity to round out the unit, there is a bundle bonus of a Southern short story guide!

All answer keys and rubrics are included for everything! Lives of teachers should be as simple as possible! :)
