What educators are saying

I really enjoyed this resource! I liked that it wasn't simple recall questions but made the students do some critical thinking.
Used this in my ELA Class great resources. Effective resources are clearly written and designed in a way that makes them easy to understand and use.

Description

The following document contains two quizzes on Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery." The first quiz is a revised quiz with higher critical thinking questions than the low comprehension questions in the second quiz. Feel free to use either or to pick and choose which questions to offer your students. The first quiz assesses a student's analysis of character name inferences, conflict, foreshadowing, indirect characterization, inferences, irony, plot (especially the implied resolution), setting, symbolism, and themes.

The second quiz is an old 10-question multiple choice quiz that contains a few low level comprehension questions of plot. There are also a few questions that assess figurative language, inferences, setting, situational irony, and themes.
