What educators are saying

My GT students loved this! They were so excited and wanted to keep tracking at home. Thus was a great easy, engaging and no prep lesson!

Description

What kid doesn't love sharks?!? In this 1 hour (modifiable) activity students will learn the basics behind shark tracking and tagging. They will then track a shark on their own using Ocearch's digital tracking website. After selecting a shark students will complete the "My Shark Summer Road Trip" activity which allows them to display their shark's journey and create a "Twitter" account for their shark! Who doesn't love sharing their travels on social media for the world to see!

This activity contains 1 Lesson Plan, 3 Differentiated Texts, 1 Student Instruction Sheet, 1 My Shark Summer Road Trip Activity, 1 Extension Activity, and 1 Review & Reflection Sheet.

The Differentiated Texts contain the same information but the sentence structure and vocabulary are adjusted so that readers of all levels in your classroom can participate and read an appropriate text for their reading level.

The Extension Activity is great to test the critical thinking skills of students after they complete the activity.

Finally, the Review & Reflection Sheet will test a student's comprehension on the main information contained in the Differentiated Text.

Students will need a laptop, cellphone, or tablet to access Ocearch's tracking website. I have included a QR Code on the Student Instructions as well as the web address to make accessing the site quick and convenient for students. The Student Instruction sheet also contains detailed information summarizing how the tracking site works!
