What educators are saying

The kids love the extra hands on work. They find it interesting and enjoyable to work with in class.
My students had a lot of fun exploring shadows and playing with flashlights. They enjoyed making their groundhogs and talking about groundhogs day. They spent the whole day talking about their shadows and anytime we do Flashlight Friday, they talk about shadows.

Description

This activity is the PERFECT hands-on, activity for Groundhog Day. It provides a fun, hands-on opportunity for discovery learning. This is a lesson that your students will LOVE and one that they will never forget!! That's the BEST kind of learning!!!

This packet includes:
~A Detective Hat Template
~A repsonse sheet for the activity
~Shadow Detective Badges
~Certificates
~templates to make your groundhog puppets

This experiment involves making predictions about what kind of day is needed to make a shadow.

Students will then use their groundhog puppets in a dark room to see if they can find a shadow for him.

Next, the teacher will pass out flashlights. Can you find a shadow now??

Students are encouraged to explore the light. What happens when the light moves farther away from the groundhog? Closer? What happens when someone stands between the light and the groundhog?

All discoveries can be recorded on the provided response sheet!

Thanks!!
