Description

A smart person learns from their own experience; the wise person learns from the experiences of others.

Croaks from the Pad

“Seven Scenarios for Student Self-Exploration and Expression” contains seven scenarios appropriate to middle school and high school students. The scenarios can be used within a unit, or as a short bridge to another unit, or on a day when things are just not working, or when you are away. They cover three strands: reading, writing, and oral.

Each Scenario asks the student to read and reflect on it, and then answer the following question: What would you have done in the situation and why? What the student would do is important, but the ‘why’ is even more significant. Encourage them to be aware of the values and experiences that shape and empower their thinking and action. They are to answer with their best thinking and writing.

  • Scenario #1: Bully
  • Scenario #2: Checkout Line
  • Scenario #3: Strange Story
  • Scenario #4: Chance of a Lifetime
  • Scenario #5: Found Money
  • Scenario #6: Chutes (More light-hearted but can produce good results.)
  • Scenario #7: Two Oranges
