Playing with toys is a common IEP goal, as well as an important life skill. This simple visual can help facilitate imaginative play, as well as act as a ready-made bridge to independent play, and even playing with others!
Very minimal prep is involved. Just print two pages of the visual play sequence, glue into a file folder, laminate, and cut. Or, just laminate the page and use it as is!
Tip: I leave the play sequence in the bin with the pizza toy, so it is always ready to go! Whether I am facilitating play or encouraging independent play, this sequence ensures that I have a tool at my fingertips to help make playtime more meaningful. It also acts as a helpful guide for paraprofessionals or substitutes who need guidance for how to facilitate play.
