What educators are saying

This is a great resource to leave for a sub and your more independent students can work in small groups with less guidance once they realize.
It can be difficult teaching 7th grade concepts to students who do not have strong reading skills. They are lost in the textbook. Resources like this increase engagement and can make learning more accessible.

Description

This set of 32 task cards is designed to give your students an opportunity to practice proofreading sentences and determining whether a complete sentence was written. Each card contains a group of words. Students read the card and determine whether each group of words is a:

A. complete sentence

B. run-on sentence

C. fragment (missing a subject)

D. fragment (missing a predicate)

Students will complete the following steps as they work through each task card:

  1. They will read the group of words at the top of the task card. (They all look like complete sentences because they begin with capital letters and end with punctuation.)
  2. They will determine which multiple-choice option matches the group of words.
  3. They select their answer and record it on their answer sheet.

These can be used for independent practice as part of a center, or your students can do the popular scoot activity to complete the task cards with a partner. I place each card at a different location throughout the classroom. Each student goes to a different task card. I set the timer for 1 minute. Students determine their answer, and record their answers on their recording sheet. When the timer sounds, students rotate- or scoot- to the next card. This continues until they have "scooted" their way through all of the task cards!

Like most of my task card sets, I have included a bonus game-like answer sheet in addition to the more traditional recording sheet. For the game-like answer sheet, students record their answers on a themed worksheet that asks "Which Olympic sport will the family choose to attend?" Once they have recorded all their answers, students tally their A, B, C, and D answers to reveal the chosen sport!

An answer key is included.

********This resource is available in three formats:

  1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute paper task cards and recording sheets.
  2. Easel Activity- With this digital format, there is one task card per slide. Students can complete this activity on a device. Students read each question and select an answer. This has a multiple-choice format, and students push the button that displays the correct answer. No checking is necessary! When your students turn it in, you will see their score and the number of attempts they made on each card.
  3. Easel Assessment- Students complete this self-grading quiz on a device, as well. After reading each sentence, students select the correct description for the group of words from a list of four possible answer choices. With this option, the teacher chooses whether or not his or her students receive immediate feedback.
