Description

Do you need an activity that discusses the main concepts of sensation? This activity is fun and engaging and will get your students thinking about the way they sense the world around them. Digital and Paper Copies Included!

This Sensation in Psychology Distance Learning Activity includes:

1) A colorful and engaging graphic organizer that first asks your students about the key concepts of sensation. Students will be asked about topics including: getting information from the senses to the brain, subliminal stimuli, absolute thresholds, signal detection theory, sensory adaptation, selective attention, bottom-up processing, and top-down processing.

Next students will be given an example of top-down processing in which they are asked to read a paragraph where in which all of the words have the letters jumbled up. The first and last letters are correct but all of the letters in the middle are mixed. They will be able to read it and it will amaze them. This can lead into a discussion about top-down processing and the way the brain can fill in the missing pieces. After reading, students will be asked a few questions to debrief them from the activity.

This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.
