Senior Infants Starter Bundle

This bundle has been brought to you due to popular demand. I am frequently asked at the start of a new year which of my resources are most suited to the start of Senior Infants and these are my most used resources which help to reinforce the learning from Junior Infants and give the children in Senior infants a good springboard for launching into the Senior Infants curriculum comfortably. It contains:

DECODABLE BLENDING CARDS:

A set of 100-word cards to support the skills of blending phonic sounds to read the words. A great interactive way to blend words with young children!

The selection of 100 cards contains words formed by the first 42 sounds in the Jolly Phonics programme. Each card contains a word, which is decodable, and a picture to match the word allowing children to see if they have blended the sounds correctly, or to self-correct if using it as an independent activity. 

DECODABLE PICTIONARY CARDS:

The children love practicing their decoding and blending with this game! 50 decodable word cards suitable for the game Pictionary. Children read a word card in secret and draw what it says. The other children have to guess what they are drawing. Can be played as a whole class, in groups or in pairs! Ideal for transitions, as a station activity, or as a warm-up to your literacy lesson!

EARLY WRITING PACK:

Encourage children to write simple sentences. A variety of pictures and templates are included from templates that have word banks included and templates which are less structured enabling your more able students to challenge themselves.

Once this has been mastered, your students will be ready for the next challenge of writing an independent sentence (or more than one) under a more detailed picture which leaves lots of scope for the child's voice and a space for them to use their creativity. Also included for this step, is a PowerPoint version of the picture to display on your IWB so that you can model and scaffold the writing process for your students.

As an added bonus, or as a method of an assessment following the unit, there are some book templates that will help to give real-life purpose to your children as they can become authors and write their own books. This is made accessible for all students as differentiated templates are included to suit the needs of the ablest child to engage but also a more structured version for a child who still needs a more scaffolded approach.

LINK WORDS:

A hands on decodable reading activity where children link letters together to form words to match the pictures.

Pack contains:

-Letter cards for each of the 42 Jolly Phonics sounds which can be printed as many times as you like to ensure there are enough letters for children to complete the activity

-Additional copies of the vowel letters

-Over 80 picture cards to compliment phonics sound sets 1-3, set 4, set 5, set 6 and set 7 grouped for ease of organisation

- Both letter cards and picture cards in full colour version and black and white

DIGRAPH LOOP CARDS:

This is the ideal resource to reinforce those tricky digraph phonic sounds. A colorful loop card game to practice reading words with a specific focus on the digraph sounds from the first 42 sounds in the Jolly Phonic programme. Pack contains 30 loop cards

RAINBOW NUMBER DISPLAY:

A set of colourful number posters, 0-20. Each poster is A4 in size and displays a number digit with corresponding graphics. When the numbers are displayed side by side, in numerical order, the colours blend to form a rainbow of colours.

SIGHT WORDS PACK:

Sight words get lots of focus in Senior Infants! This pack of resources and activities is designed to aid the teaching, learning and revision of the first 70 sight words from the Jolly Phonics list

• An interactive PowerPoint. Each slide contains 5 sight words which appear one at a time. The words are in a variety of fonts to enable children to become familiar with a variety of styles of print
• Sight word mats – both full colour and black and white versions. These can be used for a variety of purposes such as reading activities, visual aids when writing, as a homework activity to practice reading sight words or as an assessment tool
• Sight word search and colour worksheets. These can be printed and completed as a class or homework activity and they are also available as a jpeg to allow you to upload to an online platform such as seesaw and the children can complete the activity on their device
• Roll, read and colour activity cards, each containing a small selection of sight words to enable children to consolidate their sight words knowledge and develop their fluency.
• A handy list of the words for reference
• An assessment template to keep track of individual progress with reading and writing the sight words

I have also included a bonus file of the revision booklet for each set of sounds! This is the ideal resource to help you revise the phonics covered in the previous year before moving on. It will allow you to assess where your children are in their phonics learning before moving them on. Each set of sounds can be assessed with these child-friendly booklets.
