What educators are saying

I am a new school counselor. This resource was helpful in creating a small group for my middle schoolers.
Awesome material! Very well-designed handouts and research-backed information. So grateful for this and excited to do more groups with this material in the future.

Description

Description

This is a thorough 6-week group counseling curriculum for a self-esteem and bullying group. I usually hold it in the school I work at with between 5-10 students per group (although I have done it with as few as 3 and as many as 12). This could also be a wonderful unit for teachers/ school staff to borrow from to work on promoting positive self-esteem in students and providing education about bullying.

Each of the 6 sessions includes the week's objective, an opening activity, the main curriculum (all handouts and worksheets included), and a closing self-appreciation exercise. No prep is required aside from printing the materials!

The objectives for each week are included below:

Session#1 (Group Intros + Understanding Self-Esteem): Establish a sense of safety in the group and discuss group expectations/ rules. Understand what self-esteem is and why positive self-esteem is important.

Session#2 (Personal Strengths + Their Importance): Learn what strengths are and assist participants in identifying their own individual strengths. Understand the importance of having different strengths from others and learn to appreciate these differences-- They make us unique!

Session#3 (Negative + Positive Self-Talk): Understand the difference between negative and positive self-talk. Learn to identify negative self-talk in personal lives and replace it with positive self-talk.

Session#4 (What is Bullying?): Learn the definition of bullying and how it is different from interpersonal conflict. Be able to distinguish between conflict and bullying and identify examples of bullying.

Session#5 (What Can I Do About Bullying?):
Learn what to do (and what NOT to do) when faced with bullying. Understand and practice how to become an "upstander," not a "bystander," to bullying.

Session#6 (Review, Feedback, + Closing): Practice appropriate ways to respond in various bullying scenarios (using role plays). Create transition object for group members to take with them after group concludes. Allow students time to reflect on their experience in the group and provide feedback for the future.

Additional Material Provided:

I also provide detailed week-by-week instructions for the teacher/ group facilitator to follow. If you prefer shorter sessions, I have also done this group over the span of 12 weeks (with each session being 30-45 minutes). I have also included an example of the flyer I use with this group (when recruiting students/ participants) as well as a "Parent Resources" handout that I email to parents at the end of the group. Parents really appreciate this as it provides them with parenting resources on talking to kids about bullying as well as promoting positive self-esteem in youth.

This is a very thorough product and I spent a lot of time creating each worksheet and handout. I have gotten great feedback from students and teachers! Please feel free to share your experience with the product-- I welcome feedback! :)
