Description
Selective Mutism (SM) is a type of severe social anxiety disorder of childhood characterized by talking comfortably in some settings with some people, but remaining mute or nearly mute in other settings or with other people. SM can be significantly reduced and sometimes eliminated through a comprehensive treatment program utilizing systematic exposure therapy.
This product is designed to help school staff properly assess, respond to, and make plans for a child with Selective Mutism in school. Although it’s intended for classroom teachers, pages are also included for treatment professionals (who may be school counselors, psychologists, social workers, or speech therapists) to help them assess, data-monitor, and write 504 Plans or IEPs.
This is not a comprehensive therapy program for the treatment of Selective Mutism, and does not substitute for proper training, but rather contains useful supplemental materials for helping children with SM in the school setting. Do you have more questions? Please email me. I am a Colorado Coordinator for the non-profit Selective Mutism Association and a retired School Psychologist.
As of December 2022, I’ve substantially revised the packet, correcting broken web links as well as making many changes in most documents.
Note: All of the web links point to pages over which I have no control, which of course may change at any time without my knowledge. If you find a broken link, please let me know and I will do my best to find the new one or substitute an appropriate alternative.
