Description

Includes Easel Activity for Google Classroom Distance Learning.

Integrate Real World STEM on Earth Day and engage kids by learning about plants and seeds!

Teach about the importance of plants with this Earth Day Science Activity! Students learn about the importance of plants. Then, they create their own seed bomb to plant and observe over time.

Connect to a Read Aloud: Seeds of Change

This STEM Project is a companion activity to Seeds of Change: Planting a Path to Peace by Jen Cullerton Johnson. The book explores the true story of Wangari Maathai.

Take students through the Scientific Method:

Students follow the Scientific Method when building their seed bombs. They learn about how seeds germinate and come up with a hypothesis to test based on their research.

Integrate Writing:

After completing their seed bomb, students write about what they learned about plants during the experiment.

Time Commitment:

This activity can be done over a couple of days because the seed bombs need time to dry. The observation can be completed over a few weeks at school or as a take home activity.

Uses:

Amazing resource for STEM club, STEM teachers, elementary librarians, parents who love hands-on learning, and elementary teachers who want to create a hands-on educational environment in their classroom! Excellent Earth Day Activity or as an introduction to plants.
