    Description

A short story unit centered around coming-of-age themed texts. Each resource is a Google Slide Deck that guides students through an analysis of the plot and theme of the stories. Students annotate the passages from the texts right on the slides using the close reading questions included in the tasks.

The unit culminates with a Socratic Seminar that asks to students to explore and discuss the experiences and realities associated with coming-of-age using the shared readings of the unit.

    Included:

    • A Guided Plot Review and Application Task Using Fish Cheeks by Amy Tan
    • A Plot Map Application Task Using Two Pixar Shorts
    • A Characterization Close Reading Task Using "Thank You, Ma'am" by Langston Hughes
    • A Theme Exploration Task Using Bloom's Pyramid
    • A Guided Annotation and Theme Analysis of "Why Chicken Means So Much To Me" Chapter 2 of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
