Reading Development Intervention Standards CCSS Aligned

    Description

Got struggling readers? This has everything you need to help beginning readers succeed using the Science of Reading.

As a reading specialist and elementary teacher who worked at schools where whole language or "balanced literacy" was emphasized, I knew I needed to create something to help students who couldn't decode.

So, I created a very effective and easy decoding and phonemic awareness inventory, phonics posters to fill in the gaps discovered, and fun games where students could practice their newly acquired decoding skills.

The latest research on reading aka "the science of reading" says teaching phonemes, phonics, phonological awareness, and phonemic awareness (The Four Ps,) sets up students for the most success in learning to read.

Perfect for teaching foundational literacy skills as required by CCSS, TEKS, and VA SOL as part of research-based best teaching practices.

I have used all of these resources to successfully increase the decoding and reading abilities of my second, third, and fourth-grade students, ELL students, my elementary reading intervention students, and tutoring clients, including first-graders through fifth graders and students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, autism, and ADHD.

    This growing bundle includes:

    1. An assessment to see what phonemic awareness and decoding gaps your students might have. All phonemes are included along with rimes aka word families and popular word endings. *Please click individual products linked to learn more about them and view previews.

    2. Fun posters (28 so far) that teach them decoding rules and phonics (also a growing resource.)

(FYI you can get a free sample of the first two pages of posters to try out and other free resources by signing up for my newsletter at teachermsh.com)

    3. A fun game board where students can practice all phonemes and common phonics patterns in word

    • initial vowels
    • consonants and blends.
    • digraphs
    • silent letters
    • medial, and final sounds
    • Two game boards - one game is 2 pages in size and another game is 4 pages in size with double the spaces.
    • 336 cards in all, including high-frequency nouns and verbs for further decoding practice.

    4. A card game where students match onsets and rimes to make words while practicing decoding. The gameplay is similar to "Go Fish." Option for color or black & white printing.

    • 57 initial sounds including consonant letters, blends, and digraphs
    • 63 rimes
    • blank cards to add your own onsets or rimes (Added summer 2021)

These amazing tools have helped me advance students' reading progress, up to grade level, in just a few months' time with only 35 minutes a day of small group work.

With a focus on building student phonemic and phonological awareness first then having students apply their new-found skills to reading decodable books, leveled guided reading books, and literature, students were able to graduate from reading intervention.

These items are designed to strengthen decoding skills for all readers. I hope this bundle helps you out as much as it has helped my students crack the reading code!

The FREE BONUS FILE includes Reading Intervention Desk reminders that can be written on and taped to student desks, so they can remember when and where to attend their reading group. Also, included is a friendly formatted version of Reading Development Intervention Standards for K-5 adapted from CCSS Reading Foundational Skills and CA ELA. This is a beneficial guide derived from reading development research, no matter what state you live in.
