Card Sorts of Science Bundle

This card sort is for practicing interpretion and understanding of distance/time graphs (speed graphs) in correlation to data tables and stories that represent those graphs.

See the VIDEO PREVIEW: Speed Graph Card Sort

The card sort comes with 30 cards... 10 cards are various distance/time graphs, 10 are data tables, and 10 are short stories. When students use this card sort, they are to study and interpret the various graph cards. They will use their knowledge of what different sloped lines, horizontal lines, or even curved lines represent on a distance/time graph. Students even have to pay attention to the angles of some of the lines. The reason for this, is because they must then match the graph cards up with the correct story and data table of distance/time that represent the graph card. The correct match-up of cards is on the back of the graph card. The answer side of the card is faded so that it does not show through. Using cardstock paper works best for the cards... for durability, and so that even the faded answers don't show through.

This makes 10 graph-data-story matches. Teachers, there are multiple ways to present this practice to students. Make a class set and put the cards into sandwich bags. Make only one set and use it as a station. You can always make as I've shown in the pictures and have every student have a set in their science journals.

The great part about this card sort is that there are three envelope cut-outs provided for each card set. These envelopes hold each set of cards and these envelopes can be glued onto a page in the journal as shown in the picture above. (I prefer double-sided tape!)

Each envelope has an image that represents the set of cards. The top flap of the envelope is also labeled.

Using card stock paper for the cards works the best! Be sure to print cards two-sided! Let me know what you think! Thanks!
