Description
Science Experiments - The Importance of Hand Washing
These Science Experiments are going over hand washing and the importance of properly hand washing. The first experiment shows students how germs stick to your hands when they are dirty and how when they are clean the germs do not stick. This experiment uses pepper and water as an example. The second experiment shows students what they are consuming when they eat food with dirty hands. They use bread and observe it for 3 weeks to show how much more moldy the bread will get without washing hands versus washing hands before touching the food.
These experiments come with directions for each experiment, material list, instructions for the experiment, a lab report with before, during, and after questions to explain or describe what happens in the experiment, extension questions to lead and ensure students have an understanding of how the experiments relate to the importance of hand washing, and a summary with word banks or hand washing protocols.
This can be used with any middle or elementary grade to review proper hand washing. This can be used at the beginning of the year to teach students the importance of not spreading germs, at the beginning of the flu season, or even as an at home experiment during the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
