Description

Are you looking for a way for your middle school students to gain knowledge of important science while practicing comprehension skills, grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary and more? These August Science warm ups and bell ringers are the perfect NO PREP tool to get your students engaged and learning as soon as they walk in the door.

Each August morning work bell ringer is a one page nonfiction passage based on a science event that happened that same day in history.  After reading the passage, students will answer 2-4 questions ranging from reading comprehension to grammar, sentence structure, or other important language skills, making this a great daily language tool.  Topics in this August bell ringer resource are aligned with the common core standards for 5th-7th grade but can be used as a great review for 8th grade students.

This 31 page history warm up resource includes reading passages and language practice for the entire month of August along with a complete answer key, making it super easy for teachers to check student work. Daily language practice has never been easier!

Topics for August

⚠️ Because many schools are not in session in August, or just at the beginning of school, this month is a review, with no new topics added. Skills covered include:

  • Basic parts of speech
  • Punctuation
  • Comprehension Questions
  • Using text evidence
  • Using context clues
  • Multiple meaning words
  • Rearranging sentences
  • Prefixes and Suffixes
  • Root words
  • Proper and possessive nouns
  • Italicized titles
  • Hyphens and dashes
  • Appositives

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • As with my This Day in History Calendar and This Day in Science Calendar, these topics cover worldwide events; however, the focus is more on American science history than any other country and would probably be best for American schools.
  • I would caution using this product for any student below 5th grade as the content can be advanced.
