Samuel Gompers Prezi

This Prezi covers Samuel Gompers and the American Federation of Labor as outlined in the Tennessee state standards for 5th grade social studies.
The presentation begins with a hands on activity to make students understand what it may have been like for children working in factories. The activity would have students sitting (uncomfortably) on the floor in a small cramped space with the heat cranked up while being force to tie string together. The teacher would walk around and demand silence. Wages (candy) should be paid unfairly at the end. I did one or two gobstoppers. The Prezi then explains about Samuel Gompers's life, work, and the labor conditions of today.
This Prezi also contains two YouTube videos. If your school blocks Youtube or does not have internet, those two videos will not play.
