STEM Science, Geography and Sustainability Issues: World Without Oil Project
Description
This Middle School and High School STEM Science, Geography and Sustainability Project is an engaging task to explore renewable energy sources using a real world problem. Students will use the scenario of what would happen if the world ran out of oil to look at the social, economic and medical impacts this could have on society; and are encouraged to find practical solutions.
Please Note:
The outcomes I have included are for Year 7-8 Science Australian National Curriculum, However this can be easily adjusted on Easel to suit your specific outcomes.
This no-prep project is perfect for sub classes and independent work. I originally created this task for remote/ distance education. This project can be used for Grades 7-10 and covers a range of relevant outcomes.
Distance Learning
There is also a digital version using TpT's new digital tool. After purchase, click the white “Open in Easel" button on this page. Easel TpT allows you to assign the work digitally through Google Classroom. This will give you access to a digital overlay where students can use the typing, drawing and highlighter features to complete the activities to print and assemble together remotely. You can edit the digital overlay or use it as is.
The task is divided up into two parts:
1. Students watch and complete scaffolded questions for video clip, "Aftermath - World without Oil - What will happen to our world? HD Full Documentary". I have included the video file as back up if the YouTube link does not work.
2. Creative task where students will choose to create either a comic strip, oral presentation or video on their proposed solutions for the scenario.
What is included in this project pack?
- Task information (please note, "weighting" refers to the percentage the task is worth and how much is added towards students' final marks for the course).
- Resource suggestions for creative task
- Scaffold Questions and answers
- Marking Rubric
