What educators are saying
Description
This STEM Escape Room Challenge is a set of five tasks for students to complete. There are a lot of different ways you can complete these five tasks. We do all five tasks over the course of a Friday afternoon in our classroom, or over a span of about 2 hours. You could also do these over the course of 2-3 class periods and students can pick up where they leave off each day. Student teams work at their own pace, they must complete the tasks in order and complete each task before they can move on. I give each group a large 10 x 12 envelope that contains all of the materials they will need.
Materials:
- one computer/chromebook - 1 can of play dough (per group) - tub of water
- tape measure - scissors - pennies ($2 per group)
- one box of foil sheets - task sheets
- student response sheets (one per team member) - digital timer
Each student gets a response sheet in my classroom, but I only check one of them. They are working together so they should all be the same. We also keep time as they progress through the activities and record the time it takes to complete each one on a digital timer. There is one response sheet with digital time boxes and one without so you can choose whether or not you want students to keep track of their time. You could also write in the times for each task and see if students can complete each task within that time limit.
You can laminate the task sheets so they are ready to reuse each year. I print each one on different colors of paper and then each team has its own color.
This pack includes:
- teacher directions
- task sheets
- student response sheets
- certificate of accomplishment
- poster report on the Titanic (optional)
Time to try a new way of doing STEM!
