What educators are saying

My students loved using this before spring break. They were able to follow the instructions and had a fun time.
I have been teaching this for a while, but it's always nice to have new things added! Thank you! Great way to engage kids right before a big break.

Description

If you are looking for a team-building activity to keep your students engaged during the last few days before spring break, then THE GREAT SPRING BREAK ESCAPE is for you! There are six spring break-themed (trivia) challenges included in this file. Each activity can be completed individually or in conjunction with one another, depending on the time available in your planning. The challenges could be used as individual, pair or small group activities. Several detailed and thorough teacher instruction pages have been included, which provide differentiated instructions and suggestions for the various challenges.

How to use this with your students: (several, flexible options)

• One activity a day, for five days before/after the spring vacation

• One activity a day, for five days anytime before/after the break

• As a complete activity (over several, continuous class periods)

• As bonus work for students who finish their work early

• As a homework activity to promote critical thinking skills

Note: Aside from the materials that you would already have in your classroom (pencils, pens, scissors and colored pencils or crayons), no additional supplies are needed! These escape room-style games were created as a print-and-go resource. Answer keys have also been provided for ALL of the challenges!

Challenge #1: Boarding Pass

I hope you’ve been doing your research on the popular spring break vacation spots because, in order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to be able to identify various facts about each of the locations. Your correct answers will help you fill in the missing letters on the boarding pass, which is the final step in this challenge.

Challenge #2: World Landmarks

Grab your camera! In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to match up popular world landmarks to their correct name, picture and/or fact. You will do this by placing the correct location with its match in the magic number box. If your answers are all correct, the numbers in each column and row will add up to the exact same number. Your correct answers will help you unlock the safe in your hotel room, which is the final step in this challenge.

Challenge #3: Passport Maze

Grab your passport! In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to sharpen your pencil (and eyes!) and pay attention to the letters within the maze to find out where in the world you are going. First, you will collect letters that will spell out a word. This word will lead you to the end of the maze. In addition, you will have to search to find hidden travel necessities, including a hidden, mystery word. Each correct step in this challenge will earn you a new stamp for your passport.

Challenge #4: Hot and Cold Destination Race

Don’t forget to pack your swimsuit and your winter gear! You’re about to experience a change in weather. You will race to answer a bunch of spring break-themed trivia questions on some popular hot and cold destinations, then decorate your winter and summer scenes according to the answers. In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to correctly color the images on the ski slope and beach according to the task cards provided. Your correct answers will help you access the code to your hotel room, which is the final step in this challenge.

Challenge #5: Encrypted Travel Agent Message

Put your detective skills in place because this challenge is going to require you to unlock a secret message in a unique font from your travel agent. In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to answer a series of questions based on three separate newspaper articles.

BONUS Challenge #6: Tourist Photograph Jigsaw

Unscramble the puzzle pieces to reveal the name of the popular tourist destinations, then work together to put the photographs of the locations together.

*Upon completion of the challenges, one themed ("The Great Spring Break Escape") editable certificate has been included, so you can easily type in a name and date and give each student who participated something for their efforts!*
