Description
Did you know it is best practice in Special Education to include middle and high school students in transition planning . . . AND for students to lead or participate in their own IEP meetings? Create an opportunity for student led IEP meetings & student participation in transition planning for the future! You can even use this free custom video to teach students about their IEPs.
This editable/no prep slideshow guides students on IEP's to write their transition vision for after high school graduation. Check out the FREE - Social Narrative covering what the IEP & Vision are.
Students will draft the slideshow and then have a chance to lead or participate in their own IEP meeting, by reading, recording audio over the slides, attaching a video over the slides, or pointing to their slides as a teacher helps them present!
Use this reusable template planning activity with middle school & high school transition aged (14+) special education students with disabilities (autism, ID, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, etc.). Make a copy for every student you have, and reuse year after year with each of your students! Have a student who is shy to present verbally at their meeting, or who would just prefer to record themselves in advance? Instructions for how to include audio or video using Screencastify are included! Nonverbal students may also point to the slides or use assistive tech to read the text aloud for them.
Encourage discussion around having a disability, what an IEP is, and teach the point of having IEP meetings! Teach self-determination, self-advocacy, disability awareness, future planning & goal setting.
Special Education Teachers can use the student's answers to write the IEP vision, Transition Planning Form (TPF) & Transition IEP Goal Benchmarks.
