Description

Are your students struggling to keep track of the process required to solve complex linear equations? This poster features two mnemonic devices co-created by my talented and thoughtful students.

Your sillier students might resonate more with

Consider giving your students the opportunity to create their own mnemonic device. Because at the end of the day, we want the students to remember the process of solving complex linear equations (or even inequalities).

  • Distribute: apply the distributive property
  • Fractions: eliminate fractions by multiplying by the LCD/LCM
  • Like terms: Combine like terms on the same side of the equal/inequality sign
  • Variables on both sides: Move all of your variables to one side
  • Solve: Solve your one or two-step equation/inequality.
