Description
This restate and answer matching hands-on puzzle game was designed for Sped, ESL, and lower level students, but really this could be used with all students to practice the new STAAR question types!
Students match Questions with Answers for Short Constructed Responses written with STAAR language that match the TEKS (grades 3-English II).
Note: There is no passage or actual questions to answer in this resource. They are just matching the SCR question with the RESTATE & setting up the cite part. This activity is great for making sure students understand the question being asked and how they would restate it.
Ex: What characteristics of the story help the reader identify it as realistic fiction? Support your answer with evidence from the story.
The reader can tell the story is realistic fiction because it has _______, _________, and ________. In paragraph 1, it says, _______.
There are 16 different SCRs included with the questions & answers (includes both the R- Restate and the C - Cite with sentence starters). This will help your students learn the format and patterns in the English language using STAAR academic vocabulary.
There is an extension activity included where you can take out the answers and have students write the answers on post-it notes or the provided recording sheet themselves. As an extra challenge, they can rearrange, rephrase, and add in synonyms when restating their original answer. This would be a great buddy station, as collaborative group work, or at your teacher table!
