What educators are saying

This is such a great resource and I use it all the time! It helps my students become more independent when working on their sounds and love the clipart that is used.
I use these with my students and send home a copy for the parents. The visuals make it easy for parents to help them at home!

Description

Do you work with children who struggle to articulate and sequence /s/ clusters? Have you noticed that your student consistently omits either the initial or final component of their cluster, and you can't move forward in therapy, leaving you feeling stuck on how to treat it? Perhaps you've exhausted your usual strategies and are unsure of the next steps.

The 'S' Cluster Help Sheets resource utilizes multisensory cues, metaphors, and forward and backward chaining techniques. This allows you to individualize, problem-solve, and support your students to master consonant clusters.

DOWNLOAD THIS RESOURCE IF YOU WANT:

➊--Cues to break down a complex word (/s/ cluster) into smaller, manageable parts.

❷--To try different types of cues, and nothing has helped “click”.

❸--Additional cues while using the complexity approach, minimal pairs, or cycles approach, to teach the cluster.

❹--To support students with motor planning challenges (e.g., CAS) that require specific cueing, coarticulation, and support to sequence clusters.

THREE DIFFERENT MATERIALS FOR EACH /s/ CLUSTER:

1. Forward chaining (e.g., s-lip, slip)

2. Backward chaining (e.g., lip, lip, lip, slip)

3. Flashcards with visual cues on the top of the card

Multisensory Cueing:

We know that children learn differently, and these 'S’ Cluster Help Sheets give you multiple options for teaching /s/ clusters. Teach your child that they have to use their /s/ sound when they see the snake visual. You might like to tap or trace the snake’s “hiss” with your finger to reinforce the continual airflow and need to join the /s/ sound to the next part of the word. This helps the child break down the word into smaller, manageable speech units to help the child to “hear” the individual sounds or syllables of the /s/ cluster word.

This resource gives you two options when treating /sk/, /sp/, and /st/ clusters and includes voiced consonant syllables, which can be particularly helpful for children with motor planning difficulties (e.g., s-guy = sky)

What SLP's like you are saying:

❝ Love the creativity and the variety of words that can't be found in traditional arctic or phonology card decks❞

❝ One of the few things I have found that works very well for kids who leave off the second consonant in the blend rather than the /s/❞

❝ This helps my students break down the words in a different way and be more successful❞
