Description

*FULLY UPDATED FEBRUARY 2024*

CCSS.RI.5.6, CCSS.W.5.2.A-E

Students will navigate four different online accounts related to the story of Ruby Bridges attending an all-white school in Louisiana in 1960, and analyze the similarities and differences between each account of the event. The accounts of this event are in a variety of formats, from multiple sources (videos and articles).

Students will determine whether each document is a firsthand or secondhand account, the author's purpose of each source, and analyze for important details/information about them. Students will then compare and contrast two of the documents, drawing on details from each text.

In addition to supporting the common core informational text standards involving multiple accounts of the same event/topic, this product also supports common core informational writing standards. Included with this product is a text-based writing prompt and planning sheet, requiring students to inform about the significance of Ruby Bridges' first day of school.
