What educators are saying

My students LOVE this and it is easy to follow for how I teach recorders using both rhythm and solfege

Description

This whole year recorder curriculum is called ROCKSTAR RECORDER! The goal of this curriculum is to use Sing, Say, Move and Play to teach the Baroque Soprano Recorder. Students will learn the recorder in a sequence and also continue their mastery of xylophone skills.

THIS CURRICULUM INCLUDES:

9 units with 6 Levels and 25 total lessons. Each of the six levels has detailed lesson plans, powerpoints, manipulatives, worksheets, quizzes, interventions, Orff piece, and a supplemental song for a challenge or replacement. There are also directions to turn PowerPoints into Google Slides files.

The curriculum is laid out in this manner.

UNIT ONE: History of the Recorder

UNIT TWO: Beginning the Recorder

UNIT THREE: Level One-Notes G and E, quarter note and improvising

UNIT FOUR: Level Two-Note A, quarter rest and improvising

UNIT FIVE: Level Three-Note B, half note, whole note, moveable Do.

UNIT SIX: Level Four-Note low D, fermata, key signature, pick-up note

UNIT SEVEN: Stations-Low C and high C, octave

UNIT EIGHT: Level Five-Dotted half note, ¾ time signature

UNIT NINE: Level Six-Note High D, 6/8 time signature, dotted quarter note, composing.

Lesson Plans: There are three lessons for each leveled unit. The first lesson teaches a piece with a new note and rhythms. The second lesson has an activity/game that accompanies the piece. The third lesson has an original Orff composition on xylophone that goes with the new piece, capable of being performed in a program.

Also included is our lesson plan Snapshot. This is a one page view of a days lesson. It's condensed and quick to look at while you're in front of a class. It's also a Word document, so it can be modified!

Newly added is our "Today in Music Class" section. This is a manipulative you can show or give to students each class that need to know what is coming next or struggle to have activities sprung upon them. This is great for students with special needs, students that have anxiety, students that need routine and many others.

PowerPoints: The PowerPoints are interactive and in line with the lesson plans.

Manipulatives: Items to print out for stations, for students to increase their learning in a kinesthetic manner.

Worksheets: There are two worksheets for each level, which you can put into a folder for the students or to pass out when there is extra time, or when there’s a sub.

Quizzes: The quizzes are taken directly from the worksheets to help students succeed.

Interventions: These tools are used to assist the student that needs a little extra help. This includes color-coded notes with all the songs, colored squares to place on the xylophones, ideas and activities for learning the recorder songs, and large color-coded individual fingering pictures. All of the color coding also matches a free (as of now) app that you can download and the student can also play along with the xylophone on the iPad.

Orff Pieces: Each leveled unit has an original Orff piece that you can teach, put into a program, or a showcase.

Supplemental Songs: These are songs that have the same concepts as the level that they are placed in. This is great for your high achieving student.

Baroque and German fingerings included in the fingering charts and the PowerPoint.

Testimonials:

WOW!!! I just taught the 'Starlight' lesson from this set to a group of grade 4 students. We've been playing recorder since January, starting with BAG, using a variety of methods. I was about to introduce E, so I thought I'd try this lesson. It was the BEST they've ever played. They were all SO proud of themselves. The lesson plans and power points make this SO easy to use and it really aligns with my Orff training... if you don't have Orff training, it is still really straight forward. - Purposeful Play Music

This resource has enabled me to use the Orff Instruments alongside my recorder program. Some of my students are unable to play recorder for various physical/educational limitations, so having them feel a part of the program has been amazing. Also, it makes the students feel like they're playing in an ensemble with harmony and other sounds. It's great to get them used to hearing other timbres other than their own. What a thorough and thoughtful resource! -Ilena M.

I love adding other instruments to recorders as then the recorders are not overpowering but also because some of my students don't care to play the recorder and love to play other things. This is the perfect way to do that if you are struggling out there with your students and not wanting to play. Thank you for providing the Orff music as it saves me time! -Mary Crum
