Description

This activity is a 5-Act, 25-role reader's theater for the Roaring 20's/ Great Depression! This in-depth, historically-accurate resource is great for teaching students about life in America during the the 1920's and 1930's.

Reader's Theater is an engaging instructional strategy for students that allows them to act out various historical scenes. This resource also helps build fluency and reading comprehension skills.

The acts are as follows:

Act I: "Buy Now, Pay Later" (Consumer Economy)

Act II: The Harlem Renaissance (Langston Hughes/ Louis Armstrong)

Act III: The Stock Market Crashes (Black Tuesday/ Bank Runs)

Act IV: Life During the Depression (Hoovervilles/ Dust Bowl)

Act V: The New Deal (FDR/ Fireside Chats)

Each act includes discussion questions. There is a quiz for students at the conclusion of the play, as well as an extension activity in which students will create their own script through research for the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Answer key is provided for the quiz.
