Description
This is a 2nd grade social studies on rights and responsibilities of the Canadian citizen. Students in Canada can learn about the definition of rights as well as the rights laid out in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The unit uses simplified terms to teach students about a difficult concept. Even though government related concepts are more challenging for second graders, my students surprisingly love learning about rights and responsibilities using this unit. Last year one of my students said "Learning about this is so fun." I never thought I would hear that!

- a general introduction to rights
- matching examples of rights to the rights in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
