What educators are saying

I used this to introduce a science fiction unit after state testing was done. The students were very engaged and had lots of deep discussions after reading it. I also showed the 90s Twilight ZOne episode to wrap it up.
My kids love this story. I have taught it for several years. This is a great resource to accompany the lesson.

Description

Science fiction is a great way to teach characterization. In "Button, Button" by Richard Matheson, students will explore characterization in a fun and engaging way using text evidence from the story. "Button, Button" explore the universal idea of greed and how far a person is willing to go for money.

Included:

  • General Day Guide
  • Anticipation Guide to set up the story
  • Comprehension Questions - combination of multiple choice and short answer
  • Comprehension Question ANSWER KEY
  • Characterization Activity - collaborative activity using text evidence from the story to show character development
  • Characterization Activity Rubric

**The characterization activity is a favorite of my students. They enjoy looking below the surface of a character at their motivations, fears, events that shape them, strengths and weaknesses, etc. We complete this activity on poster board.
